The Chairman of the Assets Recovery Committee in the state, Mr. Jasper Ndubuaku, has cried
out over the frustration suffered in the hands of the Imo Commissioner of Police, Rabiu Ladodo.
He raised his concern and worry Tuesday in his office in a chat with some journalists in the state
The Senior Special Assistant (SSA) to the governor on securitybemoaned the deliberate refusal
of the Imo State Commissioner of Police to avail them of police protection and security in the
performance of their duties. He stated that the police boss is working against his Committee.
Hear him, ‘we even had to go to court to compel him to give us police protection and security,
the court ordered him but he refused to obey the order of the court. We don’t have police escort,
the only thing is to secure judicial mandate to move in and retrieve the stolen wealth’’
The former legislator also indicated that his committee is not deterred by whether they have
army or police stating that if they get any resistance they will resort to the court who will
summon whoever the culprit may be.
He accused the Police commissioner of taking interest in protecting Okorocha’s property. He
recounted in one instance during their visit to House of Freeda where they went to recover some
items and the generator that was at the Freedom Square and about the time they were leaving
‘the CP came to make brouhahasaying Okorocha called him, the IG called him’’ and insisted we
bring the items to his office. We never molested anybody
In his words, ‘the CP came to make all the troubles he did with us and carried all the items to his
office. It is still with him. Even upon showing him the generator that we came to collect he never
asked us how far we have gone. He just came and made sure that we didn’t touch Okorocha’s
property. And that is all he has been doing all this while I am sorry to say it.’’
On whether, he has approached the police boss directly to extract his reasons for such action he
said that the man is uncooperative adding that even vehicles that somehow they brought and took
to the police are all lying there. ‘We have written severally to release our vehicles and he would
say through his boys that these are exhibits’’, he explained again.
Questioning further if the governor is aware of the refusal to provide police protection, he had
this to say, ‘we don’t like disturbing the governor on issues we know we can handle, the
governor is very busy, he has given us work and we should capacity in doing the work.’’
Continuing, Ndubuaku said that, ‘we asked for police protection and police refused, we are going
ahead doing our job. If he gives us good, if he doesn’t no problem, what he is using police, is it
not on road block? He will tell you no manpower but he is using manpower.
