The Ihiagwa Autonomous Communities in Owerri West LGA of lmo State Wednesday celebrated her Odu Ukwu festival which is an annual event to usher in new yam in the community.
Speaking during festival, the traditional ruler of the Dindi a clan in Ihiagwa Autonomous Community, HRH Eze Kingsley Ezewunwa Odu, Dindi 1of Dindi said that the festival is an event which is rich in cultural heritage and history of the community. He thanked his people for keeping culture alive and believing in the common goal that unites the community.
Eze Odu with other traditional rulers who came from far and wide where cheered up by his subjects who came out in their numbers to witness the 2019 Odu Ukwu Festival.
The celebration cut across Ndi Nze na Ozo, traditional title holds who came out in their uniform to (pour libation) on the land of Ihiagwa Autonomous Community in general. Ndi Nze na Ozo further blessed the entire children of Ihiagwa both home and abroad asking God to open doors of progress and prosperity for them.
According to Eze Odu, the festival is a Christmas day for the entire Ihiagwa as a community. The natural ruler opined that it is an age long tradition which the community holds dear saying that it is not a fetish tradition as most people allege.
Highpoint of the occasion was a traditional dance by one of the oldest man aged (96) Echi Goddey Ozoruoke, and blessing of the land by Prof Mark Onyieche. Obiwuru Otu cultural dancing women association performed to entertain the audience.
