The Principal of Princess Shekinah International School Ihiagwa, Mr. Chris Modebe has espoused the virtues of boarding education which he described as a tool to provide holistic education for any child.
He made the disclosure in an interaction with Daily Nigerian Horn in the company of the Administrator of the school, Mrs.Etim shortly after a Mathematics Quiz competition organized for primary schools in the state and hosted by the school.
Modebe stated that boarding secondary school usually have effective teaching especially in time because according to him, both the students and teachers are together for a whole term during which period it provides opportunity to remodel poorly performing students.
In his words. ‘Boarding schools have more time to engage in curricular and co-curricular activities. In the boarding schools you have time to take care of the students, it is a holistic education and that is why if you count the top ten schools in Nigeria you will observe that most of them are boarding schools, but it must be a good boarding school.’’
Continuing, he said, ‘I encourage parents to search for good secondary boarding schools and put their wards there.’’ The Principal further submitted that in such competitive exams like the West African Examination Council (WAEC) and the National Examination Council (NECO), the top 50 schools usually are private schools but among the pack the top ten are boarding secondary schools.
Etim the school administrator opined that her school provides 21st century world class learning and are poised to be the best and first in the whole of South East adding that with the facilities on ground it will take most international schools ten years to acquire.
Extolling the school, she expressed that they run a rigorous program to the extent that students are already prepared for both national and international exams even from the first year. ‘Competitions that can take other schools three years to prepare and compete we are ready for in our first year’’, she added.
Again she stated that, ‘we blended Nigeria and United Kingdom Curriculum to have a robust curricular. I am yet to see a school having 5 foreign languages with standard laboratories from inception.’’
The Administrator explained that in their school the anxiety of the parents over their children is taken away because the students experience is much more than a home away from home what with the state of the art facilities which is second to none.
